Rene Gonzalez Architects

“The design for CasaCuba will capture the essence of Cuban architecture and culture. By distilling specific qualities found in Cuba’s varied landscape and in its diverse culture, two primary generators are identified: The Natural Environment and the Cuban People. While the response of the architecture subdues nature’s forces, it is the force of people that brings energy and life into the spaces. This is accomplished by creating public spaces to allow people to circulate, interact, learn, congregate, and celebrate. There are Portales and Jardines that surround the building and guide you to a Sala de Espejos whose central feature, La Fuente del Malecon, provides for a moment of reflection, contemplation, and meditation. The colonnades of the Portales are made of digital scrims that envelop the building with images of varied traditional Portales found in Cuban architecture. CasaCuba will provide a permanent home for the study, celebration and discussion of Cuban Culture and affairs and Rene Gonzalez Architects is honored to serve as the architect of such a vital place for the Cuban Diaspora to gather and come together.”
